Am I the only one worried about author rights when using creative commons licences?
Posting your tracks on www.archive.org can be a good solution
very cheap

In France there is a government office to do this,
just you put your CD
in a special sealed envelope, then you send it, they keep the package and they make few small hole in
the CD trough the envelope.
Obviously it's work with a writed (scored ??) version of your music.

collecting societies (like SIAE, GEMA, Sacem) only "collect"
royalties
, that's all, they don't really (legally) handle authoring issues.

Are you sure that archive.org is a legally valid proof of authorship ?

The Italian SIAE not only collects royalties; you can deposit your tunes in their archives even if you are not associated with them and they don't collect your royalties, but you have to pay.

Hey Zoiberg... where can we hear some of your tracks... They must be VERY good since you're so hung up on them being stolen?

They are so good that I don't let anyone listen to them!

You missed the point.

I'm writing a thesis on netlabels and copyright in the digital age... that should explain why I'm so interested in these things.

I'm sure most of the young producers just upload their tracks on the net without thinking much about it. I found people who wanted to create a netlabel and ignored the existence and meaning of Creative Commons licenses.

I think that if you want to set-up a label, or a netlabel, you must know the rules of the game.

What if you publish something from an unknown producer and later someone sues you because he sampled someone else work ?

afaik if such a thing would happen, the CC transfers those issues back to
the author so the label would just have to put the track(s) down.
the original author of the stolen track(s) would be liable.

Yes, if you can prove that he is the author and not you (the one that published the stolen track).

FROM CC WEBSITE:
If you are combining pre-existing works made by other people or working in conjunction with other people to produce something, you need to make sure that you have express and explicit permission to apply a Creative Commons license to the end result.
That would open a whole can of worms called CONTRACTS.
