Oh man I love tape. The cheaper the better in my opinion. Handheld walkman recorders, microcassette machines, cheap portable 1/4 inch reel to reels, nothing can fck with sound better for me.

i personally cannot stand routing back into ableton for any reason. it introduces latency that i can never seem to correct (not saying its impossible, just not worth my time). If you are using ableton as a sequencer basically i would just stick to it as that, and start grabbing up some outboard fx (...

Good shout Vinnie! I was lucky enough to have spent quite a bit of time with a Copicat, so I can make a pretty good emulation with just native Ableton FX. But then I can also put other fx into each chain part way, like a flanger in one of the 4 delay lines, a slapback in another... all crazy stuff ...

I think bass is one of the few instruments you can get away with using samples. If you can get that to sound live enough go DI. I have no idea about the harmonics on say a Piano but if I'm creating a synthesized sound, I imagine the lowest note I hit, is the lowest note and that there aren't frequencies below that.
