Oh, also, an overdriven or saturated sine lopass filtered appropriately is a great way to get a warm, booming bass sound. I give it like 4.0 db max of overdrive, then judiciously eq or filter down the mid.

So one really neat trick that people seem to forget is the tuned resonantor: you send a click or a very short white-noise impulse through a low-pass filter with a REALLY high resonance, and you'll get a really neat sounding bass tone out of that.
