I like working with melodic elements, so I also care about my synth's sonic capabilities. But yeah, sometimes there's too much focus on gear and not enough on techniques. You see it on all music forums -- guitar players, drummers, etc.

Ableton has 2 EQs -- EQ3 and EQ8, as others have said.

*shrug* I tend to write a lot of the jazzier, housier stuff in the flats -- Eb, Bb, Db, Ab.

For other stuff, the regular chords, like C, F, G, A, D, E.

But it's not something I plan before I write a song. It just happens.
