i have an extensive library of all genres of music.. althou my passion lies with minimal techno.. but im after like an explination on how gates work, aswell as 8 band eq..ect because im just droping in all types of delays/filters/compression and its like they have a retarted effect on the sound with...

Any vstI synth can be good, it's all about how you can use it. When you're not familiar with using synths, I suggest you better take a look at some tutorials to understand the basics. http://www.soundonsound.com Take a look at articles there, look for "synth secrets" Very, very basic stuf...
