Re: Relationships and making music
My experience has been: Some chicks get it and some don't. Obviously you have to make a compromise for a relationship, but some women are better suited than others. This is usually the type of girl who is somewhat creative herself I've found.

Re: computer upgrade.
I built a hackintosh 4.5 years ago and it's given me less trouble than my macbook. Granted, neither have given much trouble at all. It's fuckin solid. I have a Focusrite pro40 running perfectly off it along with a midi keyboard and a launchpad as well. All the software works perfect.

Re: computer upgrade.
Mac mini's are pretty sweet actually. The ram is dead is to change as well. You could always build a hackintosh. It's so easy to get the OS running now compared to when I first built mine.

You Ableton guys see this thing? Looks kinda cool, but at $650, don't know if it's that cool. Maybe it is though, I've never used Ableton. Any thoughts?

Re: touchscreens and ableton
Lemur for the iPad was pretty much made for interacting with ableton. There are a lot of cool features for it and is probably worth checking out.
If you're looking for something more hands on check out Numerology + Novation Launchpad. Totally changed the way I used to write music. Mac only though.

Re: Using "real" instruments
When I'm in the mood to do more melodic music, I use my bass to create the melodies. Logic has a really cool feature called "Audio to Score" that I recently discovered. It converts pitch to midi notes and is surprisingly accurate. It still needs cleaned up a little and doesn't handle slidi...
