i find to fret tap it only really works if as i tap i drag my finger towards the soundhle slightly before releasing, you have to do it fkin quick but the result is much better, almost like doing a mini slide, but within the same fret. the reason you cant get it to work is probably because its a fkin...

the placement doesnt bother me, only that it actually IS on vinyl!
