I've had several of them and dj mixers... and I have this old phono preamp box with no stickers watsoever on it as well. I'm currently using this 70's Toshiba Sa-520 in my living room+Shure M95ed (on a thorens tt). ...

Amen. Proper cleaning and poof... it sounds noticeably. Very much so in some cases.

Also, cleaning a record will prolong it's life substantially. Dust is enemy #1.

Any other ideas? Tape freak here... it's now part of my recording chain, nearly everything goes through the Otari. Different tape formulations render different results... kinda like changing tubes in a pre... Another trick is running sounds through a speaker and a mic. Overdriven cardboard cones so...

Hit the used record shops and have faith in your luck. There IS stuff out there that you will stumble upon and that you will like more than anything you've been frantically clicking around the net for in vain.
