Any classical pianists here?

My fingers seem to have a mind of their own. I've been playing piano since I was 4. Most of the stuff I learned was classical. Whenever I try to produce some deep house, or play some minimal basslines, my fingers can't help but try to add their own rendition of a Beethoven sonata or Bach invention. ...

Lifting them an inch or so off the ground might help. You could also bass trap the corners of the room, and do the ceiling too, to raise the overall absorption so not everything is concentrated on those cubes. (readyacoustics.com, gikacoustics.com, realtraps.com)

Get a keyboard.

Even though I have an extensive background in piano, I usually do draw in most of my notes, and I'm pretty comfortable tuning knobs with a mouse.

Back in 2004 I was listening to a lot of Underworld and Daft Punk. Fell in love with the Hawtin side of that EM, and been...

Re: TR-808

Awesome! I was recently at a friends house buying some used gear from him. I was either going to buy a TR-808 or a MachineDrum + UW MKI from him. After A-B'ing the two, I went with the TR-808 hands down. The original MachineDrum had some noise that I just couldn't get over, plus I didn't know when ...

An early Macbook Pro runs at pretty much the same as a Dual-Core G5 Powermac. Last I checked they run about $1000. Macbooks are even cheaper (i'd personally get an MBP -- onboard video card and larger screen is worth a couple hundred bucks) Don't go with PPC. Logic is heavily optimized to run on Int...

There are many opportunities in college to network and learn in college. You'll probably meet many DJs and bands, and you could always double major in music and something else. But if you're really looking to get a good degree and find a good job (if you're not banking on music), my advice would be ...
