I've been struggling with synthesis for years, I understand the scientific side of it but still find it hard to create the exact sound I hear in my head. Explaining how to create a sound is valuable to someone who's actually willing to think about what the controls are doing.
Scientific side is really complicated and honestly not that helpful. I started out with SoS's Synth Secrets, read/studied it all, and never got anywhere. Honestly DanceMusicProduction's Synthesis DVD helped me out a lot, but before that it was getting familiar with a really easy-to-use synth. There are still sounds that I struggle with these days, but they're usually comb-filtered, Absynth/Reaktor driven, multilayered foundsounds, etc.

The basics should be pretty easy. It shouldn't be too hard to synthesize most of the sounds you hear in tracks. Basses, leads, pads, etc.
