recording track automation in logic with U-he's ACE synth

hi there. I'm new to this awesome sounding synth and am simply playing around with the presets (yeah i know i need to really get into but just fo now...)

I'm using the TAS Ionic Bound preset and i can't seem to record record the automation changes that the mod wheel is auto mapped to. I have no problem doing this usually and think it might be because i don't understand the multiple(?) values the mod is affecting.

any ideas?
