Would love some advice.

So around 1:43 there's a chord sound that starts to come in and runs throughout the song (it's actually a sample from a friend's cello)
I love the sound but I also think it's a bit to rigid and would love it to evolve very discreetly.
Any tips on what I could apply to do this?
I usally go for a low pass filter with envelope movement though would like to learn something else in this case.
