What would be the best closed headphone for production.
Why would a headphone amp allow you to hear the bass more? esp if your card or mixer is loud enough?

More juice... cool! but what i have found in all my cans(sony, MDRv900, HD25, Grados) an ipod or my computer provides plenty of power to give me hearing damage.tone-def wrote:my DJ mixer improves the sound because it has a better headphone amp. some speakers need more juice than others.
but improving the sound?... are you talking about coloring it? Something you probably don't want in your amp to monitors(headphones).
yup and this would make sense if your headphones had 4 wires per channel. But this isn't the case for most studio headphones (that i know of) unless they do their own amplification with power.tone-def wrote:in a PA system you need different amps for the tweeter, midrange woofers and subs. one amp can't handle it.

alll high quality headphone companies recommend you use a headphone amp, (akg/grado)tone-def wrote:i really can't explain it any better but sennheiser recommend you use a headphone amp with them.
that being said... i don't use one with my akg 702s, they are great cans and have a very true sound, almost too much so.
Dope! Well you learn something new every day. thanks guys.

according to that article... this has something to do with matching the impedance of the amp to the headphones. It all makes sense now! thanks for putting up with me!tone-def wrote:it's not so much to get them louder but it makes them sound more balanced at lower volumes.

Hey...so I looked it all up...so I'm going to go for the Beyer Dynamics or AKG, but I can't try them...(no time :-( ) So here are the 5 products :
dt 770 pro 80
dt 150
dt 990 pro
dt 250
K-271 MK2 AKG
Anyone knows about these ?? I've read that the 990 are more Hi fi, the 150 are good for studio, 250 are good when you use it to record out side (!), and the 770 pro go far in the low end, same for the AKG...
I want monitor headphones...even if I know I will always have to correct it with my monitors though...it's to work at night actually...
.I'm a bit lost I have to admit...anyone familiar with those ??? Help will be very appreciated...Thanks a lot guys.
