Roland SH-32

Post by mehta »

There is a pretty good deal on one of these locally. It seems like it will work to me but have never used one.

Any comments about the unit?

I'd be using it for recording and also playing out live.

I have one of these.

They sound quite ok, and editing is very simple and hands on. The oscillators contain sampled waveforms, and not the real thing, though. However, this is not to say that the synth is bad in any way. It is good sounding and can produce some pretty punchy basses and warm pads, and it does not take too much time to cook up something usable on this machine. It also contains some quite usable DSP effects, which are good for soundshaping. Note that the SH-32 model has been known for audible filter clipping, mine included, which can be quite frustrating when playing it live (as you state as one of the purposes of buying this unit). As for the price, I would not go any higher than 200 euros and that is absolutely max for a unit such as this, in my opinion.

Check out vinyljunkie's SH-32 sounds (second sound clip):

Best regards and good luck with your purchase,
