Add low frequencies to the bass!

Guys, i looked at a lot of in the studio with, interviews and etc..i noticed that a lot of people use to put on the bass channel something to add low frequencies to it. What i am saying isn't that we have to put something to add low frequency to our bass in every case but when they're needed what do you usually use?
Anyway did you ever do it?
Someone use the DirectX MaxxBass from waves, i used it but i don't find it very good.

you don't add low frequencies to the bass. you add higher harmonics to make the bass sound bigger.
