My personal choice goes with Circus. Not only they are my friends, but its IMHO the best in Berlin. Check their scores too, it speaks for themselves.

Located in Mitte... my fav neighborhood!

I recommend the berliner city pension on proskauer str in friedrichshain. After putting up my parents and a party friend there i still dont remember what it costs, but its comparable to hostels. There are rooms with bathrooms and ones that share hallway bathrooms. It is a boarding house and doesnt have that hostel atmosphere (no pun intended:P).

as for events, look up milaro.com. For any underground stuff, just ask when you get here, as a lot of stuff is not even planned in advance.
