the only things i know about warhol are pictures of tomato soup and marilyn monroe. wasn't that called 'pop-art'?
but, modern graphics found on covers for "our" minimal music stuff don't seem to be very different.

i play mostly minimal but i would like to think of it in terms of context. when i have been playing minimal all night and i slip in an acid track its minimal for that moment. its the context im playing that record in. there would definitely but some exceptions to that rule though.

don't disagree with anything you said but this... Minimal has been around long before electronic music. But even as electronic music it existed much earlier.... "Robert Hood, minimal nation" Studio 1, Mike Ink.. Even Hawtin's first albums as a solo producer back in the 90s. But if you are saying that they took the idea and ran with it then sure thing.
word!

and real minimal music comes from people like steve reich, avo pärt, phillip glas, moondog etc.

and electronic minimal music can range from clicks n cuts (this was the first word in the 90s for whats "electronic minimal") to detroit influences, but its mostly the beats and klicks, its the transparency.

its definitly not a minus thing, much people before are working on electronic minimal music in the 90s.

see also the first works for minimal house music on raw elements from steve bug.

and dont forget all the abstract underground productions up from the 80s.

and people mixing up the words "popular" and "definition". minus dont make the definition of minimal music, they are _only_ popular, thats it.

you also can see avandgarde music as post modern/post minimal music.

so, whats (electronic) minimal music today:
its electronic music, but electronic music has no specific face, only characters.

and there is no real definition, because the people make the definition of it.

klick klack, clicks n cuts, abstract, experimental, clubsounds whatever

minimal techno is techo sounds at house speed. surely? that would make sense.
This debate is pretty dumb. house is what you make of it. you could have this same debate over whether a track is electro, electroclash, funky house or 'nu-rave'. basically however you use a track in your set is how it can be defined-you've got to make the catagories and boundaries yourself or else youll be lost and confused. and it takes a while!
but generally speakin i think of minimal techno as a bit faster, more glitchy sounds, more spidery whereas minimal has a muhc more organic, wooden, tribal :? sound

when all is said and done i think we are pretty fortunate. minimal has come a long way from those early phillip glass productions. it has evolved vastly. for better or worse? you decide. at least it has not pigeonholed its self like some other genres and specificly sub-genres.

It's great music for being on drugs and looking cool.

Ahem...

Well, this one is, for exemple, rather minimal:

But then again, minimal could also be something like that:

Just my two cents ;-)
