I like creating a solid kick that's more interesting by layering and resampling kicks from tracks you like (preferably non dance music - maybe soemthing with a real sweet timbre..)
if necessary Take the bottom end out ot it, then layer a subtone to the kick you have created. Preferably in the key you plan to write in.

neheton indeed. Usually I layer two kicks from nepheton (one deep, one more forward kick) and then start EQ'ing the thing. You can create really really deep kicks that way.

I know yall probably don't like Deadmau5, but here's a quote from him regarding his kicks:
“I layer my kicks with a sine wave that is tuned with the bass line,” Zimmerman reveals. “You have to be careful with that because you can run into serious phase problems. But if you put the phase offset 180 degrees, it will make the most monstrous kick possible. You have a perfect inverted phase kick. The top end is what gives it the punch. You don't need much of that; the rest is all a pure sine with a bit of a volume envelope.”
