glad to see so many of you posting world cinema favs! it really gives me some hope for the state of cinema. keep in mind i am in the us where people don't realize that film exists outside of the corporate hour and a half long commercial meets catchy tag line trash hollywood has been putting out through my 26 years of existence.

just caught these great flicks at the cleveland cinematheque:

battle in heaven
michael haneke's cache

both are phenomenal if you have not seen them. hopefully some of you have a local cinematheque/arthouse so you could check them out on the big screen because they are playing now.

excellent choices my friend! kinji fukasaku! miike takashi!!!

might i suggest kinji fukasaku's (director of BR) Yakuza Papers series. 5 of the best yakuza flicks you will ever see. it has been dubbed the yakuza godfather but i think they are hardly comparable.
