If you're talking about their dubby chords, you can get that sound(or close) with most flexible analog synths. My Ensoniq ESQ1 does it quite well, so do many of the reaktor synths.

Here's how I do it:

Start with a saw wave, run it through an enveloped low pass or bandpass filter. Use a fast attack, short decay on the amplitude. Assigning velocity to the cutoff is a cool trick too. Then add some delay and or reverb.

That should get you close, then just play around.

also useful is controlling the filter with the velocity
juan atkins's starlight is a good example of that and some Cr releases have that too
so does aril brikha... if you starlight then you'll start wondering what was so new about his sound 8)

ah yes...velocity on filter has a nice effect.

okay...how about the famous dub chord structure?


i'm not an trained musician so it pisses me off cos i can't find that good chord.

He used an ESQ1 for groove la chord. I don't get why he is/was so popular. he's written some nice tracks, but they're nothing amazing.
