Sorry but umek still makes some of the sickest techno records still and continues to rock the charts. I don't understand where he has fallen off?!
and jumping the minimal bandwagon... what the hell do you mean by this? are you kidding me?

look at the RA top 100 dj's, he's at 78 where as in 2002 he was one of the biggest names in techno. if this poll was about back then i'm pretty sure he would have been top 10. it's just my opinion but i know a lot of people who think the same. he's fallen off my radar thats for sure.

Re: Umek 'Slap' Bass - how to?
Saw wave, filtered with a fairly neutral resonance (Q=0.7 or so) at maybe 2-300Hz or so, with a linear ascending pitch envelope. Stick an envelope on the filter frequency too so it goes up at the same rate as the pitch. It's a really simple bass; don't overdo it with fx.loopdon wrote:I would love top get some pointers on how this bass is made?

I have looked at in a spectrogramm (made with audacity),
it looks like chords (?) immediately bending upwards. Or rather some kind of arpeggio?
This is the spectrogram picture taken from audacity:
Any additional pointers on the production are very welcome as well.
Thanks!
And it's just one note; the "chord" pattern on the spectogram is just its harmonics.

Wow, you're quite right. I didn't realise he'd been around that long. I'd only heard his recent stuff and thought it was shite. What a shame...nakoradiomies wrote:well this goes little offtopic but omg how shite is umek nowdays..![]()

and about the bassline. he must had massive amounts of imagination that day...
lol... apparently i wasn't paying enough attention to umek either and you are right. Last couple tracks I have from him are you might hear nothing and take a look... which imo are pretty sick... but overall you are so right. And thanks for the reminder...tone-def wrote:could you post some examples of recent good umek tunes. all i hear is tunes like the one above and even some electro house.

But do you think if umek hadn't evolved his style for better or worse would he still be in this business?
