How much do you really want an outboard mixer?

If you want to mix OTB then by all means get one, but if you've got any amount of outboard gear you may be better off upgrading your soundcard first since you'll undoubtedly want to do that at some point down the line anyway...

The Beringer Xenix series actually sound pretty good, especially the eq section. I think the lowest one you can get with a sweepable midrange is the 16 channel one. I've put these up against some Mackie and Soundcraft boards we have in the building and it actually sounded better. Sometimes high price doesn't always equal better sound.

I have an Alto small as sh!t mixer. It was like $60.00 and is surprisingly well built.
