I don't think Dubfire is using tom samples, Armando.

I'm betting it is a sine or filtered triangle wave with semi-fast pitch envelope (slower than a kick) with some noise to fill it out.

That method enables him (you!) to make the length and depth of the sound exactly how you want it.

yep, compressor or better yet leveling (like the LA2A) is perfect for increasing the perceived sustain of the sound. even an eq could do the same thing but the compressor might be better suited since you arent messing with the phase of the tom

..you can add a bit of reverb to the sample, record it, then load the new sample into the sampler and put an envelope on it. The reverb when tightened up with an envelope matching the originals sound will give it more length. Try it, it works when used subtley.
