I like the idea but one has a big task on his hands making it work. It's no good starting it off as a thread as guaranteed it will get a few replies then disappear into oblivion.
Look at the sample share thread above.

I'm not saying it won't work, I'm saying it will take some thought to keep it fresh and keep people interested.

Ok i'm going to make a sugestion for a task we can work with to try and get this started. (The continuation of this idea is up to us all, to figure out new tasks). My task sugestion is very very basic but i belive this is good so everybody can be a part of it. I have stolen this idea partly from a samll course i took in music production.

The task is to take a track we choose this together (perhaps well have to take a vote if we can't agree, i hope you will help me with trivial stuff like how we do this stuff). We will then analyze the form and insturmentation of the track.

The instrumentation analysis will contain a list of all the instruments/samples in the track and perhaps a comment describing the timbre and/or other things about the instrument.

Example of instrumentation analysis:
Kick
Snare (long reverb tail)
Hats
Pad (minor chord)

The formal analysis will describe every part of the track and how many bars every part is.

Example of formal analysis:
Intro 8 (only pad and fade in of hats)
Main1 16 (kick, bass, snare introduced. Pad and fades continue)

After this is done and we have discussed our results perhaps we can make a cover of the track using simple sample packs and presets. Therefor a i suggest the track should not contain vocal samples and other stuff that we can't get a hold of. My suggestion for a track since it's simple and only contains basic sounds we might find in sample packs is Radio Slave - RJ

What do you think?

I think that sounds great. So we start by recreating the kick in that track while explaining how we did it (as simple as possible) and what software we used? Did I get that right? When can we start?

Yeah why not - though some sort of reasonable time frame is needed as I am sure we are all busy people

Cool plan man! I am not good enough to even try this, but will definitely be following this and maybe joining in in the future.

I don't think its a matter of being good enough but more of a learning experince for us - and I am sure if you participated you would get alot more out of it

What I'm really saying is give it a shot you may surprise yourself as we all start thinking and still do think we're not good enough - but thats how we learn

Especially with music production it is a constant learning process, otherwise we would stagnate :)
