[LEFTOUT02] Reagen-Can't Remember That EP

Post by frisfris »

LEFTOUT002
Artist : Reagen
Title: Can’t Remember That EP
Label: Leftout
Catalogue No: Leftout002
Format: 12”
Price: …
Release date: May/June 2007
Distribution: Syncrophone

With Leftroom’s offshoot imprint Leftout kicking off 2007 in style with the Matteo Spedicati ep we now travel to Holland for Leftout 002. Yet another up and coming producer has been found residing here in the name of Reagen. With a definate style of his own and a natural ear for melody we are sure that he’s someone who will be making his mark even further during the coming year. Four killer tracks are on slate here, each with a distinct style that we feel captures the essence of Leftroom and Leftout.....

TRACKS

Blasting off the ep as it means to go on is the monster 'Bugbite'. With an eerie start to the track the groove builds over the first minute and then the main riff drops with devastating effect. The cleverly catchy yet subtle melody takes over the track and creates a Roman Flugelesque stomper purely for the dancefloor. The main elements are now slyley woven throughout the course of the track with the main riff leading the way to the close.

To compliment the massive sound of the original track we now turn to Polish producer Marcin Czubala for his interpretation. Marcin himself is an established techno producer and has just released the 'Super Constallation'ep on Mobilee which found favour with the likes of Guido Schneider, Troy Pierce and Matthew Dear to name but a few. This remix has a similar tone to that ep and uses some of the distinctive noises from the original. These are now manipulated into a latenight/after party minimal track for the head aswell as the feet. An understated mixture of glitchs, clicks, subtle melodies is the state of play here which are brought together cleverly over a dubbed out groove. The end result is a dark and futuristic remix still with the dancefloor in its sights.

Pure dancefloor mayhem is found within this next track. Teddybear starts as intensely as it ends, sounding like what would be the result of Gaiser (Minus) and Alex Under (Trapez) being locked in the studio together. On the surface we have a really simple catchy track but on closer listen you can hear the quality of production as the two lead melodies play off each other. Definately one for the fans of Minus et al.

To finish the EP we have yet another banger from the Dutch upstart.entitled 'Crossing blades'. The track itself uses similar sounds to that of 'Bugbite', but this time the emphasis is on a more syncopated bass lead and a rising and falling riff that creates a whole different killer track to be reckoned with. Reagen’s trademark background glitches and stabs around the main sounds ensure that this is yet another dancefloor weapon.
