Don't have one myself but in the Interviews section Richard Davis mentions he uses a Valve microphone in addition to a SPL mic pre-amp.

Rode do nice microphones i would go for a NT2 personaly have a look on ebay i think u can get them for fairly cheap.

I have a shitty mic but does what I need for now, gunna get a better one soon ........

I always get recommended the Shure SM58

Shure's are a live mic and to be honest not very good for studio use. As i said before u cant go wrong with a Rode microphone :D

the shure is crap for studio. a friend bought some cheap one which is new and very good. much better then the sure for studio recordings. have to ask him.
