Producing Berghain techno?

I think also the records they listened to as they were growing up.

Can hear a lot of Claude Young, Steve Stoll, Early Landstrumm, Traktor / T+, Maurizio etc in their work.

The Souind of Berghain If I were to try and define it currently is essentially the sound of early NYC techno with extra white noise and that berlin style accentuated clap placed on the 1st and 3rd beat rather than the 2nd and fourth.

Obviously that's not the only sound there is, but from playing with a lot of those guys and hearing like this new horizontal ground material etc, it's definately a major influence right now. I think also people are moving back to the 909 for kicks and hats.

It's also a lot slower, something I approve of most definately, you tend to get a lot more definition on the bass and the records sound much heavier when you slow em down a bit.

Really like the FSG stuff man. Very unique sounding. I like when artists have their own signature kinda stamp/sound.

something ive done is resample my patterns, but not directly, ill mic up my monitors from a distance, and i always get something different and it feels more...alive, the only problem with that is i tend to lose alot of strength in the signal, but theres a ton of ways to boost it thru some eq work or compression. I enjoy that.

I'd like to hear examples where you've done this. interesting technique!

I second whats been said. Nice tracks man.
I'll add this too. Berghain, the club, is what this brought this sound on. The thunderous/cavenous sound has influenced alot of artists who have DJ'd there and they have since modelled tracks particularly for that listening environment through emulation. Something I have found as being critical of late is reverbs off of kicks. It helps bring the 'thunder'
Most times now, for the sake of 'feel' and 'groove', I'll create a kick pattern purely to bus to a reverb channel thats ran through a LPF. That kick track is muted and the bus send is pre fader, so it really has a life of its own (the verb) in relation to the kick track/pattern I'll eventually use.

What has me intrigued these days is that 'sprinkling' sound, or 'crackling' sound used a lot these days. Its almost like micro edits used rhythmically. anyone tried this yet?? I havent yet. Its just what I hear sounds so exact that it makes me think its coming from the same plug in, or sample or specific sound..??

there's actually a plugin in Ableton (vinyl crackle or something) that does exactly that
Also in Reaktor you'll find plenty of noise generators that can do that.

It's funny: now that no one plays vinyl anymore everyone tries to emulate the vinyl dust and crackle on their digital files

It is funny hey. I have a crackle plug in, not entirely sure its that! But I will check it out, good idea

The percussion beat that comes in at 0:51 is what i define as 'berghain-percussion' nowadays. It's got this rim-shot-like sound at every 2 and 4, used as a snare and these scratches and noises in the background. And of course, the shakers!

Anyhow, any tips on how to make the "snare" sound. I've made some tries that were similar, but none sounding good.
