Sounds like a detuned sine to me.

I'm no expert on it but i guess this could be easily done with an FM synth. One osc is slightly beating against the other.

because two sinewaves one detuned and maybe assigned to an lfo will make this type of sound. sort of wobbles a bit...

there is a great plug-in from waves called maxxbass that excites the harmonics in the bass giving the full sound without adding any sub to it. This on a sinewave based bassline will sound like the bass you played
