Percussive blobby bass

Hi im trying to figure out how to make a bassy percussive sound like those you can hear in tides carl craig rmx or in villalobos - amazordrum right in the drum loop at the beginning.
I think it has something to do with filter automation but i cant figure out how to do... Someone has any suggestions?

P.S: Please dont say come out with your original sound because i love that sound and im trying to reproduce something similar... So please dont troll the post with common answers like that

pitched toms? but I think you can do it with any good synth and filter.

I'm guessing a good go at the pitch envelope. Thats what gives toms there sound.

pitch envelope and FM synthesis are good things to try out for such a sound i believe...
