"recording to tape"

Post by Spurn »

stumbled unto this article on cm online :
http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/tech/ ... ips-167694

some good tips, some not so good imo but anyway
ive read about how some of you guys "record to tape"

and in my mind i always assumed this meant like a reel to reel
but this article talks about actually just recording to cassette tape.

is this something some of you guys actually DO??

i wouldn't record to cassette unless you want it to sound lo-fi. digital audio sounds much better. did you ever go from listing to stuff on tape to getting a CD? do you remember how much better it sounded?

yeah totally. the article is basically a how-to for lo-fi sound specifically so that makes sense.
i could see that maybe being useful for certain tracks or certain situations.

if you are set on recording to tape but want to do it on a budget, use a good quality Hi-Fi/4-head VCR instead of cassette...you'll get much better results.

A friend of mine still has an 8-track recorder which he uses now and then to record tracks to, then re-record it with Logic. Gives it a nice analog 'warmth' strangely enough.

Thanks for the link, I found it very interesting. I'll try doing some research on recording to tape and see if I will be able to do it.
