turntables + ableton live set

Post by motek »

recently i decided to incorporate abelton live in my dj sets combining mixing records on turntables with adding loops or effects or edits or what from live.
so i was wondering if there is some way to sync ableton to the beats coming from the records.
i searched around and i came across a bpm counter that transmits midi clock signal but i dont know wether this would work good or not so im not yet sure about it.
i also heard that there are some mini programs that count the bpm and then rout the midi clock signal to live or any other application but i am also not aware of details.

does anyone have any info on the subject?

you can get rid of that since you can directly tap in the tempo into live's tempo field. then just start in the right moment. use the mouse to change the values if you were a bit late or early and revert to the tapped tempo when synced. works good enough imho.

i've already tried that and its really distracting. thats why i wanted something stable so that i dont have my mind on tapping...
i've found another solution that seems to be much better and accurate than tapping :

though, if anyone has info on the forementioned programms and/or bpm to midi counters, its more than welcome.

it´s not built anymore. you have to look on ebay for a used one. and they are rarely sold.

hawtin and pierce are tapping the tempo btw.

Use a midi controller and map it to the tempo and set up the range you want to mix over - personally I use a 5 bpm range. Works like butta
