It's all about personal preference. I prefer pads cause i think it feels a little bit weird to play percussion on a keyboard, but that's just me.

sorry it's because of my bad english ...

i've sold today a m-audio oxygen 49 , i think/hope that pads and semi-weighted keyb are better than just velocity sensitive keys to play piano and drums ...

For me definitely pads, hence my love of NI Maschine.

It's nice to have both in your setup, but if you have to choose, go with the keys. What controllers are you considering?

i'd say pads. you just can't "drum" on the keyboard key's like you can a pad or drum head. unless you are a bad ass keyboardist. i've tried doing drum sounds on microKorgs non weighted keys, and the result is that it sucks for that purpose.
