1st try to mix on headphones

Post by Stomper »

Hi,

after my last post, i decided that ill try to mix with my headphones.
theres only panning, compression and such. but no space effects like delay or reverb as i usually add those when i finish the track.

anyway, would like to know what you think on the mix. if it sounds good on your system or just bad.

sounds ok to me on my beatbox,

bass could be slightly out of tune. i dunno maybe its intentional.

im aiming for a more dark/deep style. i think if i made the kick more punchy it wouldnt go well with what im aiming for.
i thought the bass is a bit loud too. gonna split frequencies later or add a sine wave and reduce the volume. will see :)

@steevio
it wasnt on purpose. its from the nord modular and it does some funky stuff to the pitch when the glide is connected. just didnt tuned it properly.
i disconnected it already as im not using any glide here.

thanks for the feedbacks. it was really important to me to know it didnt turned out as bad as i thought it will.

bass didnt sound too loud to me, if anything the other way.

i use a good quality beatbox which has sub-boost button to check bass, if i have to use the boost to hear bass it usually means its too light, if i use the boost and the speaker farts theres too much.
might sound unscientific, but i've tested thousands of tunes of all descriptions and it is almost fool proof.

with your track i fealt without the boost it was very slightly light but it sounded fine with the boost on, so i would say its almost spot on, deffo not too much bass.

agreed that overall there isn't too much bass in the track

but you've both noticed a problem with the kick/bassline relationship

i meant that mid frequencies of the bass. i should have clear on that, sorry.
i still struggle with the habit of fixing things when listening through the monitors.
but it was fixed when i tuned the bass, so i think i heard something off with it but thought the problem was something else.
i adjust the bass with frequency analyzer to have about the same low end energy as the kick, so there shouldnt be a problem in that area of frequencies.

thanks again. much appreciated.
