When making a song, how many tracks do you end up on average?
I find my number lies between 15-25. This includes all percussion and synths.
How many tracks do you usually have?
Re: How many tracks do you usually have?
12
not including effects
and ive got that down from about 30+ a few years ago, but would prefer to work with a max of 8.
the term tracks is misleading in my case, it should be channels, and each channel is the output from a vcf /vca or lpg /vca, so its not just one sound, it could be something that starts off as one thing and ends up as another during a mix due to routings being changed to the vcf/vca.
i kind of think holistically, its not separate tracks, its a whole thing which has 12 variable output levels.

Re: How many tracks do you usually have?
Last few tracks I've made have been around 15-20, give or take.
It's crazy hearing about pop productions that use 100+ tracks, I'd like to sit in on a session one day and see what they all are...

usually 2 or 3, but with a lot of submixing and complex routing on each.

8. This is for my current hardware setup, and this number is without group or bus channels.
As for when I get digital, anything between 5 and 30 i reckon

usually around 15-40 channels . I don't like any two sounds on the same track because it makes mixing easier.

8. Because my Tascam 488mkII says so.
