OTB units
i started with ITB only solutions. After a while i wasn`t satisfied with the digital character of plug ins.
A combination of ITB producing and OTB mixing is a good way.
Logic provides a nice feature (external instrument) where you can route any channel strip to a physical output and you are able to route the signal back to Logic.

I use Reason so use a few different effects chained together.

The Pedalboard in Logic has a lot of fun in there! Especially that big Delay has a fantastic dubby vibe.
Amplitube too.. a lot of emulations of the classic pedals.
