Some of my favorite ambient (music in general) comes off the Kompakt Pop Ambient series. Lush, beutiful, and euphoric and mellancholic at the same time. Reminds me of Aphextwins Selected Ambient Works 1. Think E.

for minimal ambient be sure to check the Stichting Mixer label
all experimental minimal ambient frequencies
don't think you can go more minimal than that...

Check out "Robotron" by Signal.
And I second zzz: you should enjoy Frank Bretschneider's stuff.
Hmm maybe Daniel Stefanik? Isomer Transition? Or am I totally off topic? :D

hearing this will i guess render some pretty interesting links with more recent works:

William Basinski

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Basinski

Furthermore, all releases are re-released as CD currently.

One of my favorite ambient artist.

Alright, you could also check out:

- Room40 (just download the Virtual edition of the Airport Symphony to get an idea http://www.qmf.org.au/airportsymphony/v ... minal.html), Non Visual Objects (Heribert Friedl is the name to follow and so on if you're into microsound.
- Miasmah, Lampse Recordings if you like it weird (check out Elegi and Markus Fjellstrom Lps),
- Hapna, Headz, Noble if you like it folkish or jazzish (Tape, Minamo or EISI, especially the one remixed by Taylor Deupree)

Hope this helps :-)
