if it bounces in real time it will be the same as what you hear in the DAW.

But if you're recording into Audacity (like me) you're still using a digital bounce down so why does it sound different to when I bounce down out of Ableton?

I would like something else to bounce down too like a Tape Machine or ADAT, so I can do it in realtime.

i never use the render to disk function in ableton -export audio as it is now called- i too find that it changes the sound of the song a bit. it gives some "mp3" shadow to it... or at least that is what my ears hears.
what I do is to create a new audio track in the arrangment, set input to resampling, monitor obviously set to off and i record in real time, then edit the file in wavelab, normally saving one version "as it is" for the mastering guy and one normalized to 0 dB to listen to it in different speakers.
