By all means, avoid the Arturia Jupiter-8 plugin!!!
The sound in it is amazing, but it's a CPU hog, it's impossible to program (sliders are way too coarse), it's buggy and crashes often, and worst of all: It uses the SyncroSoft Dongle copy-protection which is a NIGHTMARE!!!
I often feel like using it because I paid for it and it does sound good, but I just know that if I do, it's gonna mean trouble and downtime!

Go for some other Roland synth from the same era, if you want real analogue. My Jx-8P has a very similar tone to the Jupiter. Perfect if you just want basslines or simple pads. Maybe a Juno-1/2 or one of the newer analogues like Doepfer Dark Energy.

But I think you can get a long way with plugins. The trick is to warm up the pure sound with some well-balanced distortion or saturation. Maybe get an outboard preamp to route your plugins through, then bring them back in the box.

i think arturia software is full of holes... been running the cs80 plug...(no dongle) sounds good but same story with crashes and stuff here.

I dont use my Arturia J8 plug anymore cos of the glitches.

The GUI keeps freaking out all the time - sliders moving & acting all crazy.

Tech Support dont seem to have an answer for it.

Lesson learned - dont upgrade if theres nothing wrong with what you got. I should probably try & roll back to an earlier version, but I think mentally, I'm done with them based on this experience.
