i think its faintly amusing that people in this thread keep saying how pointless it is and yet they keep posting stuff, and i think its because many people have very strong feelings about this issue, myself included.

but the way i see it there should be no argument, the term DJ is an abreviation of Disk Jockey, a guy who selects and plays phonographic records.

isnt it about time we called people who manipulate laptops and controllers and dont play their own live music something else ?

then the argument would evapourate, and everybody would be happy.

they are different techniques that require different skills, the only thing they have in common is that the end product is music for a dance floor, which has been the goal of much popular music for a century in many different forms.

so as far as DJing is concerned, turntables are not useless, they are fundamental.

thats me out of here. :)

A disc jockey (also known as DJ or deejay) is a person who selects and plays recorded music for an audience. Originally, disk referred to phonograph records, while disc referred to the Compact Disc, and has become the more common spelling. Today, the term includes all forms of music playback, no matter the source.
