I have an old laptop (bought in 2004) running Ableton 7 and Fruit Loops 8.
I dont know much about this kinda thing but i have a problem were the sound clicks and pops to the point were its hard to listen to the track.
Is this because I need a soundcard or cos my laptop is not powerful enough to run the software, and how do i rectify this??
Probably been asked loads but any help would be appreciated

This would probably help, but it's kind of pricey.

Honestly though, you're processor and ram should be taken care of first. Get a new laptop, there pretty cheap nowadays!

I suggest to get the ASIO4ALL drivers and then adjust your buffer settings to balance latency and clicks/pops.
If your computer can't handle it... your probably need a new computer.
I had an indigoIO and had problems like this for years.
I bought an RME fireface400 and still had problems.
This is after optimizing for both.
ASIO4ALL and the base soundcard consistently gave me the best performance.
Regardless, you should be able to do some stuff even with the old computer. just don't expect to go crazy with like 16 of channels of Massive or reaktor. I would stay away from cpu taxing plugins, use things like synth1, samples or stock plugins.
Good luck!

yer its a a cpu/ram issue. What you can do if you don't feel like shelling out on new gear is rendering channels into .wav-files to save the cpu from having to process every sound in real-time when you press playback. I'm not sure if Fruity Loops has a freeze function like Cubase, but if so, use that.
