Hi there,
I am a outboard kinda guys so...
There are several synths to choose from for Detroit inspired sounds beyond the Dx-100 suggestion for the famous solid/lately bass patch. Depends what you are after and budget wise. Here are some other suggestions. Korg Poly800 , Juno 106, Ensoniq Mirage, Sh-101 & Sequential Circuits Pro-One for basslines. Use of the chord memory feature on the old Korgs as well as the Alpha Junos. Consider resampling chords into a 12bit sampler and then retriggering.
The beat is like a river....it must flow.
