Buying a used PC, what spec can i get away with?

Post by kristofason »

Heloo!

I'm looking to buy a 2nd hand desktop quite cheap (250 quid max) for music production. I'd love to be able to go out and buy the latest i7 but times are hard at the moment!
So does anyone have good knowledge of what spec would do me well on an old pc?? My dual core 1500 is gettin really sh!t now...
Ive been lookin at stuff like this......
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HP-XW6200-Dual-64 ... 3a5a4ac020

Im thinking, if i get it RAM'd up to the eyeballs and put my soundcard in, it might be ok.....??
Im not too bothered about it being obsolete in a year or so either, as long as i can get a few more plugs and fx than my current set up......

any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!
thanks..

I think that will suit your needs well. And RAM memories are really cheap if you need to upgrade.

as long as it's 64 bit cpu and you have sufficient RAM all should be good.

ay cheers for the feedback so far!!
the xeon pc in the link scores quite low in comparison to some quad cores Ive seen on ebay tho, at around the 350 quid mark...dunno wether its worth puttin the extra 100 towards one or even if a quadcore is overkill..

I had my eye on those too - but ended up building my own - but certainly a good buy in my opinion
