If you want to use it in a production, get E-Phonic Tape Delay. Just put the wet/dry at 40% so it looks like a regular delay and the feedback on 60/70% so it's a bit on the background. Then, automate the time function just after you played a sample, from 25 to 1 in about 1 or 2 seconds, the result:

How can I emulate this sound Hawtin is doing at 1:29? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpA7iAnwxUg

I have played around with the PSP 42, running Traktor into Ableton and then through the PSP 42, and I can't make it sound the same. I have mostly been using the 'invisible slider' to change the delay time, and also by using the Manual knob. I have noticed that when you change the delay time with the invisible slider, a static noise is added as you change the timing. And when you use the Manual knob on it, it seems that the range isn't enough of a change from slow to fast. I have messed around with all different combinations on the PSP 42 and can't get it to sound the same. I have tried looping just the snare, just the beat, and beat repeating those and running it through. It's just not the same.

Just wondering exactly, HOW he does this.....

Hi,

What he does here is take a sample from Maschine and takes that into the mixer with his homemade tape delay (time can be adjusted). Then when the sample gets the speed he wants it, he just uses the Traktor delay function (or any other delay) that uses a 1/64 1/32 1/16 1/8 1/4 'pitch delay' and flips it from 1/4 (sounding 'low in pitch') to 1/64 (sounding 'high in pitch').

And for everyone who thinks Richie and Mnus use PSP, NO. Not anymore. Altough I saw Troy Pierce use this program, Richie along time ago stopped with it. All of his effects are homemade by his dad and himself. It are very easy to create effects, you have to figure out how to work with them and how to controll them because u can fck op allot with so much knobs and different speeds and effects.

In my track Axis III I use the two effects seperate on 1 sample, the outcome:
http://soundcloud.com/rickyyyyyyzeven/r ... g-axis-iii
And thats just on the snare, if u use the effect on a loop you will get the same result as Richie. And never forget, its the wet/dry and feedback that will get you the better result, all you can hear in the video is the wet, so the dry signal is 100% gone. The loudness comes from the feedback.

Can you elaborate on what a 'homemade tape delay' is and what homemade effects are? You mean he created them with NI Reaktor and Komplete?

Or do you mean like a PHYSICAL tape delay like this?

He and his dad modified the mixer effects to their own standards. These are 'homemade' because they made it theirselves. ;-)
